Welcome back to another exciting week of The One Room Challenge. So what happened this past week? I have been focused on the laundry area and installing all the laundry room cabinets since I had to make a run to the launder-mat to wash clothes. So getting the laundry cabinets finished was the my priority.
Laundry Room Cabinets
In the photo below you can see the area before cabinets. The unsightly hot water heater is finally going to be enclosed in a custom cabinet. Adding that cabinet means the washer and dryer are going to have to moved down a little too. The dryer vent needs to move too. See where this makeover began on week one and the progress on week two.

After the hot water heater cabinet was build the washer and dryer needed to be moved down and the dryer vent needs to move too. We added a recessed dryer vent box to allow us to move the dryer without the need to make another hole in the wall to vent it outside.
Hot Water Heater Cabinet
The hot water heater was built in place using pocket screws to attach the cabinet to the walls. I used the Kreg jig for pocket screws to make this process easy.
Cabinet Handles
Choosing cabinet hardware was not easy, but these handles are perfect.
Under Cabinet Lighting
My choice for under cabinet lighting was an easy one with these since they have a warm light setting 2700k.
We had to move the electrical outlet up and then changed it to a double box with an outlet and switch to accommodate the under cabinet lighting.
On The To-Do List For Next Week
- Finish painting cabinets
- Tile wall behind the washer and dryer
- Make and paint and install baseboards
- Paint and install hot water heater cabinet doors
- Build and install washer and dryer enclosure
- Cover the old dryer vent area
If all goes well we will have those custom cabinet doors this week. We have had a ton of deliveries this past week and my favorite delivery so far are the fabrics from Fabricut since they are amazing, thus I cannot wait to make the mudroom area bench cushion and pillows.
This is going to be amazing! I will be writing about my progress for the next 3 weeks. Pinch me I have to be dreaming this is really happening and I hope you will join me on this makeover adventure. What are your ideas for the ULTIMATE laundry room/mudroom? Please let me know in the comments. Please checkout all the other participants in the One Room Challenge.
