Traditional Irish soda bread is quick and easy to make. It does not require rising time like yeast bread instead it is just mixed and then kneaded a few times.

Ingredients

– 4 Cups Wheat Flour – 4 Tbsp. Organic sugar – 1 Tsp. Fresh Baking Soda – 1 Tbsp. Baking Powder – 1/2 Cup Butter – 1/3 Cup Unsalted Butter – 1 1/3 Cups Buttermilk – 1 Egg

– Preheat oven to 375 degrees – Prepare a sheet pan with non-stick foil or grease – In a large bowl mix all dry ingredients

– Add buttermilk, cubbed butter, and egg, and stir until incorporated. – Cover a clean work surface with a dusting of flour and turn out the dough and knead a few times.

– Shape dough into a round. – Using a sharp knife cut an x on the top of the dough. – Brush with buttermilk and butter mixture.

– Place dough in the oven and cook for 50 minutes or until when tested with a toothpick is done (brushing with buttermilk and butter mixture every 15 minutes)
