Line a 9 by 13" pan with foil. Place one layer of saltines in the pan and set it aside.
Combine butter and brown sugar in a saucepan. Bring mixture to a rolling boil and cook for 3 minutes while stirring.
Pour mixture over the crackers and bake in the oven for 7 minutes.
Remove the pan from the oven and sprinkle the chocolate over the hot cracker base.
Spread the melting chocolate like icing, then add any topping you desire.
Refrigerate to cool, then break off pieces and enjoy!

Notes
Note: You can melt the chocolate in a double boiler while the cracker mixture is in the oven. The melted chocolate is easier to spread over the baked crackers.
