Patriotic Decor – DIY American Flag Clothespins Wreath

Sharing is caring!

Red, white and blue wreaths are so bold, beautiful, and patriotic, therefore I decided to make one this year for the 4th of July. This American flag wreath is one of my favorites. It is easy and inexpensive to craft with items you may have on hand. I used clothespins from the Dollar Tree and paint I had on hand.

My inspiration for this DIY flag wreath a case of CABIN FEVER.  Therefore, so my daughter and I started a crafting group this summer and we would like to invite you to join us HERE.

Making a clothespin wreath is so fast and fun you are going to want to make a ton of them.  This wreath is styled to look like an American flag and can be displayed all year. It is perfect for the 4th of July, Memorial Day, and every day!

Clothespin Wreath Supplies and Tools:

Clothespin Wreath Painting

Painting the clothespins posed a little dilemma since they have hard to reach little nooks and crannies furthermore those springs needed to be painted but they have to be workable too. I found that using a cardboard box to hold the clothespins while I spray painted them was the perfect solution.

Note: I used 36 red, 30 blue, and 23 white clothespins.

The clothespins needed two coats of paint. For this reason, I painted them and let me dry overnight before adding the second coat of paint.

Use a different box for each paint color.

Arranging the Clothespins

Please note that the number of blue clothespins can be easily adjusted unlike the red and white since they should be groups of six to form even stripes. To create the wreath start adding the red six clothespins then white clothespins and back and forth until you have eleven red and white stripes. Add the blue clothespins to fill in the rest of the wreath.

Next, glue the stars on the blue section of clothespins.

Note: You can cut stars out of paper or purchase wooden stars.

This wreath is going to be perfect on your front door this summer. More wreath ideas with the painted clothespins would be such as to replace the blue ones with green and make it into a Christmas wreath so on and so forth.

I love your fabulous 4th of July wreath, Kippi, and I'm Canadian! LOL Great budget-friendly idea for a patriotic wreath. I think my home needs one in just red and white for Canada Day this year.
