Wingback Chairs Update

Sharing is caring!

Wingback chairs update took these chairs from the 80’s to 2019. Upholstering furniture instantly updates your decor. This pair of wingback chairs were given to our client from her husband’s grandmother and she wanted to keep them, but not pink. Saving good furniture for another generation to enjoy is our goal. No reason to fill up the landfill with good, but out-of-date, furniture when you can update and save it.

Condition Inspection:

What to keep and what to replace on an older piece of furniture? I always evaluate a piece of furniture for any repairs needed, such as, springs, webbing, foam, frame and wood condition if it has exposed wood since this is the best time to do those repairs and/or updates.

Fabric Selection:

New fabric will update the chairs, but the client also wanted the legs painted white. These photos were taken after she painted them since we advised her to paint them before we upholstered the chairs.

One of my favorite types of fabrics for upholstery is stain resistant Sunbrella. In the video below I spill strong coffee on fabric and you will not believe what happens…

Upholstering the Wingback Chairs:

I start the makeover by carefully removing all staples and tacks. Then replacing only the fabric on these chairs, however, the cushions needed new foam. If you take a close look at the arm fronts of the pink upholstery you can see it was badly wrinkled. I have a special technique to minimize those arm front wrinkles. See the after photos below:

Adding Pillows:

I wanted to see how these neutral chairs looked with gusseted down pillows in a woven pink geometric. They are definitely pretty in pink. It is so easy to change their look with pillows. The pretty floral arrangement I made in another post, see it HERE.

Those pillows looked so pretty, so I tried buffalo check pillows next. The only thing I changed were the pillows and the look is so different. The client is going to enjoy these “new” chairs. Decorating for holidays and seasonal changes are going to be a breeze with this neutral pair of wingbacks.

The pink geometric pillows were made by me so the fabric patterns match unlike the buffalo check pillows. Soon I will be sharing my techniques to pattern match pillows so please subscribe to get that delivered straight to your inbox.

I wanted to share my favorite source for these buffalo check pillows.
