Buttery sweet and salty saltine cracker toffee is a favorite dessert at our home and after you try it will be yours too. This wonderful dessert is also referred to as Christmas crack, candy crack, and pine bark to name a few.
Saltine Cracker Toffee
I stumbled upon this wonderful dessert at church. It was made by one of my friends so I had to ask her for the recipe. Once you try this heavenly saltine toffee bark you will understand why I had to have her recipe.
What is Christmas Crack | Candy Crack?
What is Christmas crack? It is a saltine cracker covered in a buttery brown sugar sauce then baked and topped off with dark chocolate. The salty cracker crunch, caramelized butter, and brown sugar with the dark chocolate is the perfect combination of textures and flavors for this unforgettable indulgence. Simple. Easy. Delicious.
- 9 by 13″ pan
- Wooden spoon
- Measuring cups
- Hot pads
- 1 Cup Dark Brown Sugar
- 1 Cup Butter
- 12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
- Saltine Crackers
- Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
- Line a 9 by 13" pan with foil.
- Place one layer of saltines in the pan and set aside.
- Combine butter and the brown sugar in a sauce pan. Bring mixture to a rolling boil for 3 minutes while stirring.
- Pour mixture over the crackers and bake in oven 7 minutes. Remove pan from oven and sprinkle the chocolate chips over the candy. As they melt, spread them like icing. Refrigerate to cool, then break off pieces and enjoy!
The first step is to line the 9 by 13″ pan with foil.
This recipe uses only four ingredients, thus making this the easiest candy recipe ever. I used a heavy saucepan to boil the butter and brown sugar mixture.
After boiling the mixture for 3 minutes pour the hot mixture evenly over the crackers.
I use the back of a wooden spoon to spread out hot butter and sugar the mixture over the crackers.
I like to add toppings to the warm chocolate chips such as a half cup of chopped pecans.
Give your saltine toffee a candy melt topping with sprinkles instead of chocolate and nuts for a Valentine’s Day treat.
