Fall Decor Ideas – Everything Pumpkins

Sharing is caring!

Fall is my favorite time of year, and decorating is one thing I love about fall. So I start decorating with Pumpkins since they add color and organic beauty to our home both inside and out.

We do not have a “real” fall experience down south since everything is green and it is still hot. Therefore our decor has to create the fall experience. We have a dilemma with fresh pumpkins rotting almost immediately if left outside. To solve that, I use faux pumpkins. I make many fabric pumpkins using my easy sew fabric pumpkin pattern and instructions from this earlier post.

If you have been following my blog, you know I make pillows for every holiday, and I wanted to create a new pumpkin pillow in traditional colors. It needed to be easy to sew (just one seam); therefore, it could not have a zipper, so I used my envelope pillow technique you can find in the earlier post.  You can see how I made the pillow in this earlier post.

Fall Decorating

This year, I will decorate with the traditional fall colors, and I wanted to share some fall decorating ideas and some extra inspiration from other amazing bloggers (you will see more at the end of this post.)

Start by gathering items you already have one hand and see if you need anything else. If so, can you make some items, or do you need to purchase them? You can see my favorite decor wish list HERE.

Why not enjoy time with family making some fall crafts?

I used the leftover fabric from my throw pillow for the fabric pumpkin below to make it in minutes.

Favorite Supplies

The mini stuffed fabric pumpkin took only a few minutes to make. It is so easy even the kids can make them. I have offered this as a local class as a fundraiser for the local children’s home, and kids come and make beautiful pumpkins.

They have used all t-shirts and flannel shirts to make them. You can read more about my favorite 9-year-old helper HERE. She was teaching other ladies how to make them since she was an instant expert.

Decorating with Fall Flowers

You can find Fall colors in nature, and we have plenty to choose from in the fall. The sunflowers and yellow coneflowers are still in bloom so I am using them to create a fall vibe in my secret garden (this is the area outside my studio.)

It calls my name to come out and have a chai break. Nature is the best place to take a break to recharge and refresh. The bonus is getting a dose of vitamin D.

Coneflowers are a wonderful addition to your garden they are a perennial so you only have to plant them once and enjoy them every summer and fall.

Fall Outdoor Lighting

One thing I miss in fall is the longer days, in other words, the extra sunshine, therefore I added solar lights. I built some easy DIY Lanterns and Obelisk with solar lights.

The beautiful trellis in the background will have lanterns added as well. You can see how to build an easy trellis HERE. I purchase some solar tealights and solar fairy lights I cannot wait to try out.

My daughter, Olivia, is an artist and blogger and she created a 3D fabric pumpkin that sewed easily I cannot wait to make one too. I think I will make a collection of these fabric pumpkins for my front porch since they will not rot.

I enjoy how Kirsten added a punch of color with the pale turquoise yarn and the nod to the south with the added cotton. Did I mention Kirsten lives in the same town as me? There are cotton fields just a couple of miles from our homes.

Fall Decorating – Key Elements

It is all about cozy warmth, muted colors, and pumpkins. To create a cohesive fall vignette, table setting, or outdoor space you will want to make sure that all your key elements have a similar vibe. In other words, if you are using all muted colors in a vintage style, you would not want to add a bright and wild tie-dyed throw.

Wood tones add warmth to your decor naturally and speaking of nature fall is harvest time so add some gords, pumpkins, flowers, bittersweet, vines, and cotton too.

Candle lights are warm and inviting I like to use solar candles that do not melt outside.
