Welcome back to another exciting week of The One Room Challenge laundry room makeover. So what happened this past week? Great news the washer and dryer cabinets were completed and the washer and dryer have been installed and they are running as I type.

One Room Challenge Guest
This laundry room makeover started four weeks ago and it is turning out better than I had imagined. We really needed to update our basic laundry room because it is one of the hardest working rooms in our house since it is a mudroom, utility room and storage area all rounded into one. The laundry room needed more storage hence I started looking for small laundry room cabinets. I decided to add a built-in cabinet around the hot water heater with a large laundry room storage area above the hot water heater and we added cabinets above washer and dryer. I shared more about these additions in last week’s post you can find that post here.
Small Laundry Room Storage Solutions
The area between the washer, dryer, and the bottom of the cabinets could be used for storage too, however, it would need to have a shelf build in the space since the washer vibrates and items cannot be stored directly on it. For inspiration designing laundry room shelving I refereed to notes and saved photos for washer and dryer laundry room ideas.

The next step in preparing this area for the built-in washer dryer cabinet was to make a cover for the dryer vent box. And install the baseboards.

I cut and attached a spacer board to mark the placement area for the cabinet top while tiling the backsplash.

Note in the photo below I have removed the spacer board and installed the right side of the washer dryer cabinet.

I planned the top of the DIY washer dryer cabinet will be stained and the sides will be painted white, so I made a little stain sample board to help me decide which stain I liked best with the fabrics for the mudroom bench.

Designing and building small laundry room cabinets has added beauty and function. The best news this week was our new washer and dryer were delivered and installed. No more trips to the laundromat.
