Valances

Valances add that special something that every room needs. It is like the wedding cake topper and the room’s jewelry in other words the Wow! factor.  The treatment featured in this post was designed by a group effort of myself and my good friend Jo Thomas from Braxton Drapery Design. The client loved this fabric and wanted something special over the kitchen sink’s window. I love what Jo designed.

Notice the inside of the horn is the lined in the tangerine fabric like the jabots. I covered bead-chain in lieu of the usually covered cord and sewed it into the seam allowance then I hand sewed on the beautifully beaded trim.

Notice another important detail is that this valance is interlined with heavy interlining to add to the body and to help it to keep its form.

I made the window treatment in three separate pieces and hung on custom hardware. I selected the hardware design and the finish to coordinate with the cabinet pulls and the faucet.

Adding this custom treatment changed the overall look and feel of the kitchen.

I wanted to share one of my recent projects. The fabric used was simply excellent and the pattern brings life to this window treatment!

This sweet little girl’s room was in desperate need of a valance. When the client called me out to measure there were only the white sheers at the windows and no pillows on the bed. I changed all that and even upholstered a chair for her room too.
