Broccoli Salad

Broccoli salad is a quick salad with fresh broccoli, crisp bacon, crunchy red onion, dried cranberries, and sunflower seeds. The homemade salad dressing is super easy to whip up in under 5 minutes.

Ingredients

  • Crisp broccoli florets – crisp and fresh.
  • Sharp cheddar cheese, grated – adds a creamy, savory flavor.
  • Dried cranberries – Adds a sweet and tart flavor.
  • Bacon – Crispy bacon adds a smoky flavor.
  • Sunflower seeds – Adds crunch and saltiness.
  • Red onion – Adds a mild zestiness and slight sweetness.
  • Mayonnaise – Adds a rich and slightly tangy flavor.
  • Granulated sugar – Sweetness that balances the tangy flavors.
  • Apple cider vinegar – Adds a tangy and slightly fruity flavor.

How to make Broccoli Salad

Cut broccoli florets into bite-sized pieces. Rinse and drain thoroughly. Add the broccoli to a large mixing bowl.

Next, shred cheese or use packaged shredded cheese. Add cheese to the broccoli in the bowl.

Measure and add dried cranberries to the bowl.

Chop cooked bacon, then add it to the broccoli mixture. You can use this mess-free method for cooking the bacon. Another option is to use real bacon bits.

Measure and add sunflower seeds to the bowl.

Chop red onion, then add ⅓ cup to the broccoli mixture.

Dressing

Add the dressing ingredients (mayo, vinegar, and sugar) to a small mixing bowl.

Whisk them together until the dressing is smooth.

Pour the dressing over the broccoli mixture, then toss to evenly coat.

Refrigerate for an hour before serving.

Beautiful salad but I omitted the bacon ( will get chicken bacon next time as no fat and less salty ) and have replaced vinegar with lemon juice. To make it a full meal I would add plant protein ( black beans, white beans, quinoa ,any of those ) Lovely and tasty salad.
