Llama Pillow Pattern

Sharing is caring!

This easy llama pillow adds so much whimsy to any room. I wanted to add a llama pillow to my daughter, Olivia’s, bedroom makeover, but I could not find one that was a good fit, so why not DIY one?

It is that time again for our monthly DIY blog challenge tour where I join a group of expert DIY bloggers and we share something we made with fabric. Please hop over to each blog to be inspired for a DIY summer project (see their links at the end of this post). #diyprojectchallange

Cutting the pillow

I cut two 20″ by 20″ pieces and a 2″ by 20″ zipper placket (see the zipper below) out of linen fabric for the base of the pillow. Please note: the pillow would be very to difficult to zip close since the faux fur neck continues into the bottom seam, so I opted to make a lapped zipper placket to keep the zipper away from the faux fur.

Cutting the fabrics for the llama

Using the provided SVG files the face can be cut out of  felt with your Cricut Maker or cut by hand.

Olivia printed out the neck pattern onto a piece of paper then she cut along the lines. Then she traced on the back side of the fur the neck pattern.  She marked a cross with a water soluble maker on the 20″ by 20″ linen square to help with placement. The fur neck should hang a little off the bottom of the linen pin in place.

Hand stitching

  1. Position the fur neck on the linen square and pin in place then stitch on using a whip stitch.
  2. Next place the felt head on top of the fur and find the look you want and pin then whip stitch in place.
  3. Then do the same for the eyes, ears, inside of the mouth, bottom lip, nose base, and nose bottom.
  4. Embellish with flowers and trims.

Note: when cutting faux fur cut with the wrong side up so it reduces the loss of fur.

Making the flower crown

To make the flower crown I used a pattern I found on the internet you can find it HERE. I used felt and used hot glue to make the flowers. However, I hand-stitched them onto the llama’s face.
