How to Make Oreo Balls
Oreo Cookies: For the best results, select the original Oreo cookies. They perfectly combine crunchy chocolate cookies with a white cream center.
Add the Oreo cookies to a food processor with a regular blade. Pulse until the crumbs are even-sized (no large pieces). Remove two tablespoons of crumbs for garnish.
Cream Cheese: Use softened cream cheese (not reduced fat) for easier mixing. Add the softened cream cheese to the cookie crumbs and pulse until combined.
Next, use a cookie scoop to portion the Oreo balls.
Use your hands to roll the scooped cookie mixture into a ball. Place the balls on a parchment-lined cookie sheet and freeze them for 30 minutes.
Chocolate Melting Wafers: Set up a double boiler and chocolate dipper while the Oreo balls are in the freezer. Heat the water in the double boiler pan for five minutes before removing the balls from the freezer. Place the pan or bowl over the simmering water and add chocolate wafers, stirring often as the chocolate melts.
Remove the bowl of melted chocolate to a heat-proof trivet covered with a folded tea towel.
Dip cold Oreo balls into the melted chocolate, then return them to the parchment-lined cookie sheet.
Garnish immediately.
