Banana Bread Ingredients
This is everything you need to make the BEST banana bread recipe, and you probably have the ingredients. No hand or stand mixer, just a whisk or spoon is all you need for this easy recipe.
Eggs: The egg is the binding agent that combines all the bread ingredients, providing a tender texture. Room-temperature eggs are best.
Sour milk: Sour milk adds a tangy flavor that balances the sweetness. Add one teaspoon of white vinegar to make sour milk and let it sit for 5 minutes.
Salt: Salt adds flavor and balances the sweetness.
Bananas (mashed): Over-ripe bananas add flavor and moisture.
Baking powder and Baking soda: These leavening agents help the cake rise.
Flour: All-purpose flour is the base for the bread batter. It gives the batter the ideal texture.
Sugar: Granulated sugar adds sweetness to the bread batter.
Oil: The addition of oil provides a soft texture and moisture.
Tip: You can substitute some of the granulated sugar with brown sugar.
Special Tools
How to Mash Bananas
Using a fork and plate is the easiest way to mash bananas for this recipe.
Tip: Select dark, over-ripe bananas since they are the sweetest.
How to Make Banana Bread
Whisk the eggs and sour milk in a medium-sized mixing bowl until foamy. Next, add the mashed banana, the dry ingredients (salt, baking powder, baking soda, flour, sugar), and the oil. Stir to incorporate.
If you add nuts, chocolate chips, and/or raisins, fold them into the batter.
Baking Banana Bread
Prepare the loaf pan by cutting a piece of parchment paper to line it with an overhang to help lift the bread out of the pan. I spray the corners with baking spray to prevent them from sticking.
Place hot bread on a cooling rack for 15 minutes before removing the bread from the pan.
Remove the bread by holding the parchment paper overlap and placing the hot loaf on a cooling rack until completely cool.
How to Freeze Banana Bread
After the bread is completely cool, wrap it with plastic wrap. Then, place the wrapped bread in a labeled freezer bag or airtight container for up to four months.
Freezing Tip: To freeze sliced bread, cut pieces of parchment paper to place between slices before freezing.
