One of my family’s favorite recipes is crockpot chili. I am all for a hot bowl of chili when it starts getting cooler. It is a hearty, protein-packed one-pot meal for everyone to beg for more.
This recipe is called slow cooker chili, but I call it delicious. Slow-cooking chili gives the flavors time to develop, so why not stitch it on your slow cooker and forget it?
Let’s get cooking.

While you are planning your recipe, I wanted to share some recipe pairing ideas: chili goes great with a salad and fresh garlic bread.
How to Make Easy Crockpot Chili

Crockpot Chili Instructions (Step-by-Step)
One-pot meals are so easy; however, this recipe does require an extra step of sauteing vegetables and browning the ground beef on the stovetop. The veggie preparation and browning of the ground beef can be done a day ahead, so in the morning, you remove them from the refrigerator and place them in your Crockpot. Then, add the canned goods and spices, cover, turn it on, and forget it.
Saute Vegetables
First, add olive oil to a skillet, then place it over medium heat. Then, add the chopped green and red peppers and cook for three minutes.
Next, add onions, garlic, salt, and pepper and cook until vegetables are tender.
Then transfer vegetables to your Crockpot.

Brown Ground Beef
Add the ground beef to the skillet you used to cook the vegetables. Break apart the ground beef with a spoon or spatula as it browns.
Transfer the browned ground beef to the Crockpot using a slotted spoon.

Canned Goods
Add three cans of diced tomatoes and a can of chili beans in a mild sauce to the Crockpot. Then open and drain a can of kidney beans and add to the Crockpot.

Seasonings
Add all the spices (except the fresh cilantro) to the Crockpot, then stir.
Cover the Crockpot or slow cooker and cook on low for 6 hours.

You will want to make a large batch and enjoy it for days. This recipe freezes well, making an easy dinner on a busy day since all you have to do is defrost, heat, and serve.

Crockpot Chili Serving Ideas
You can serve your chili straight from the Crockpot; however, I like to serve it with additional toppings (sour cream, spring onions, shredded cheddar cheese, and fresh cilantro). You can also serve it over pasta, hot dogs, or baked potatoes. It is fun to serve the chili in bowls and invite your guests to top with their favorite toppings.
Toppings
- Sour cream
- Shredded cheddar cheese
- Fresh cilantro (chopped)
- Spring onions (chopped)
- Jalapeno peppers
Favorite sides
- Corn chips
- Salsa
- Saltine crackers

You can serve an easy favorite Pine Bark Toffee; the recipe is HERE. It is the perfect amount of sweet and rich dark chocolate after chili.
